Star-Crossed Lovers

If we bypass every romantic movies that has been filmed and aired in public, we can all see one common thing that they say to describe their so called 'love', and that is 'fate'. Fate here, fate there, fate everywhere. They all say that their love has been destined by fate. Romeo and Juliet is one of the original plays that showed the so called 'fate' idea of love. William Shakespeare has been known for that, and because of that, most of the romantic movies today have been based on his ideas of love and romance. If you read Romeo and Juliet for the first time, you will, or might, find it weird for them to be thinking about serious things about love considering their very young age: we read that Juliet is 13 and Romeo is about 16 (Shakespeare didn't really say it). Imagine how parents today would react if they find their boys and girls thinking about marriage at that age.

This kind of love will be described by others as fate because they will say that Romeo didn't really mean to fall in love with Juliet but 'fate' made him to. By definition, fate is the development of events outside of a person's control. If you think about that definition, it means that fate is something that happens without you knowing it. However, how is fate connected to love? People say that true love is destined by fate, therefore saying that true love is something that happens without you knowing it. It is a very popular topic for Hollywood films and TV shows.

Love by fate is one of the topics of the hit sitcom The Big Bang Theory. Anyone who have watched it might say "really? I thought it's about a bunch of nerds trying to fit in with today's society?" Love by fate is squeezed in the story when Leonard, one of the main characters, fell in love head over heels, with his beautiful neighbor Penny. The show goes on and on but you will notice that in every episode, Leonard shows his profound love over Penny. The award winning movie Titanic is also a great example of the topic of  love by fate. The movie, or story, is about a peasant named Jack falling in love to a beautiful sophisticated woman named Rose. Their fates crossed in the ship and then they fell in love with each other. They did crazy things, declaring every time that they really love each other until the massive ocean liner they are riding on crashed against an iceberg. That incident then tested their love for each other as they scramble to survive the sinking ship.

We could go on for hours discussing movies, TV shows and other medias concerning about love by fate. People say love is blind, which is really kind of idiotic, and they find fate an important factor when finding true love. Even teenagers today might know more about love than some adult because of the rampant idiosyncrasies Hollywood films and TV shows have put in young people's minds. I am not saying that I don't watch movies and TV shows, but I strongly believe that in today's society, the media has played an important role in the spreading of ideas about love and fate. The fate of love is that it always seem too little of too much. Young people these days can't wait to experience love that they are trying everything they see in television.
